Whilst down at the beach this morning with my adorable husband … the sun kissing my back, swimming in the surf, and breathing in the beauty of Byron Bay beach and surrounding hinterland, I am completely filled with gratitude.
I believe that heaven really is here on earth if we wish to choose to create it. Every day that I make the intention to be present as I walk on the beach observing the clouds, the mountains, the seagulls, the ocean and the way the waves crash upon the sand; or when I look out our living room window at the birds, butterflies, flowers, plants and dragons all doing their thing in the garden, I am simply in awe at just how beautiful this planet is. It washes away all my worries and concerns about the news ‘stories’ that are designed to fuel our fear. And every time I breathe in the beauty of nature, I am gifted with even more unexpected surprises, whether it be a pod of dolphins swimming by, or a coloured flower that I hadn’t seen before, or a cloud formation that all fill me with happiness, joy and beauty.
Creating my life exactly how I like it is something that I absolutely love to play with. Continue reading

I’m one of those people you read about that does things that you think “who on earth could be that stupid?” Yep, that’s me.
Here’s a recent example that I’ve been living with the past few days … Continue reading

Warmer weather, blue skies and summer approaching inevitably means one thing … its that time of year again… Christmas. Whilst the holiday season is something that most of us look forward to with elation, it can also be quite stressful.
Do you find yourself with a massive ever-growing to-do list as the end of year comes closer? Somehow convincing yourself that all those “things” must be done before December 25. Do you say ‘yes’ to every invitation for a night out? Do you get carried away with all the champagne and celebratory nights out at this time of year? Do you notice your stress levels rising at the thought of Christmas approaching? Why is it that we load so much extra pressure on ourselves at this time of year? The season when we really should be relaxing and enjoying quality time with our loved ones. Continue reading
A little while ago I uploaded a survey asking what you’d like to read more about on the Be Genki blog, and a number of you asked for a list of books that I recommend, so here goes…

Anxiety, sleeping problems, mood swings, stress, the “blues”… do these words sound all too familiar to you? It seems that as the years go by, these stress-related states are becoming more prevalent, with mental health problems fast becoming the number one health issue. If you are currently suffering or would like to prevent these debilitating feelings from consuming your life, there is, in fact, much that you can do to help yourself be the happy and healthy person that you deserve to be.
In my opinion it all starts with the basics: eating healthily, exercising regularly, breathing pure natural scents and setting aside a few moments in the day to nurture yourself. Continue reading

After spending a good six to eight hours laying on your backside there’s no better way to start the day than by heading out for a walk.
Personally, I use morning walks as an opportunity to wake up my body and mind so that by the time I get home I am energised to engage in the day. (A great alternative to needing that coffee hit.) Continue reading
I have a new love that has been energising and relaxing me for the past six weeks: the new self-healing acupressure pranamat. On days when I wake up without a spring in my step, I lay on it for 20 minutes and my energy levels are restored. When I’m in a frustrated or stressed mood I lay on it for 30 to 40 minutes with my eyes closed, and am surprisingly a lot calmer and level-headed once I get up. Continue reading

Diary of a Vegan
Making the decision to go vegan is a different path for everyone. The reasons behind the choice may range from healthy living to animal rights. Whatever they are, making the decision to be vegan is one of the biggest gifts you can give yourself, animals and the planet.
I was chatting with Be Genki‘s Sam Sample recently. She mentioned she had recently made the transition to veganism, after years of flirting with it. I asked if she would be happy to share her journey in the hope of inspiring others who are thinking about becoming cruelty-free. Here is her story… Continue reading
People have been drinking herbal teas for their healing properties for as long as we have known how to heat water. Considering the anatomy and physiology of our body, herbal teas make perfect sense as the drink of choice, not only for their diverse therapeutic benefits but also for helping to improve our daily water consumption. The human body is composed of more that 60% water. Blood is approximately 92% water, the brain and muscles are approximately 75% water and bones approximately 22% water. Rather important that we drink an adequate amount of water each day don’t you think! Continue reading
Considering the stress and stimulation that we are increasingly being exposed to, it’s no wonder that many of us find it difficult to fall asleep at night, suffer from poor sleep or wake up feeling tired and flat.
Checking emails in bed on the iPhone or Blackberry, eating a large meal at nighttime, going to the gym late at night, worrying about how much work there is to get through, watching television in bed, depending on alcohol or pharmaceuticals to help fall asleep, are all recipes for an inability to fall asleep or disrupted night’s sleep.
