Bedtime Rituals to Help Promote a Tranquil Sleep

Considering the stress and stimulation that we are increasingly being exposed to, it’s no wonder that many of us find it difficult to fall asleep at night, suffer from poor sleep or wake up feeling tired and flat.

Checking emails in bed on the iPhone or Blackberry (the one thing I am most certainly guilty of), eating a large meal at nighttime, going to the gym late at night, worrying about how much work there is to get through, watching television in bed, depending on alcohol or pharmaceuticals to help fall asleep, are all recipes for an inability to fall asleep or disrupted night’s sleep. My first encounter with lavender oil was when I was studying aromatherapy. I was making pasta for dinner and as I was transferring the pot of freshly boiled water to the sink my oven mitt got caught on a protruding part of the stove, causing the pot to tip and splash boiling water all over my forearm. What Consequence Are Your Choices Having?

Every now and then I read something that strikes a chord, leaving me pondering over the idea for days and days on end. Last week it was the following extract from The Power of Myth by Joseph Campbell.

“People say that what we’re seeking is a meaning of life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think that what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances within our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive.” Continue reading

How Beautifying is Your Sleep?

Being a girly girl, I love my bedtime beauty ritual of applying a highly nourishing face serum to help me on my quest for smooth glowing skin when I wake. But sometimes…. more often than less… I wake with a birds’ nest of tangled hair and the occasional crease mark on my face from the pillow. Doesn’t sound too much like beauty sleep, does it?!
