Make the Commitment to Exercise, to Help Reduce Stress and Improve the Healthy Glow of your Complexion

I don’t know about you, but I really start to feel it if I don’t exercise for a few weeks: I become more lazy and sleep in that little bit longer, I become brilliant at conjuring up reasons why I deserve my sleep ins, my mood drops, I lack inspiration and no longer have that spring in my step or vibrant energy that I love so much. It scares the pants off me!

So as not to fall in to that trap again I have made a commitment of 5 times a week to just do it. Whether it’s a yoga class, yoga in my lounge room or hotel room, workout at the gym, walk in the countryside or dance session, it’s got to be something active.

There is so much research out there stating that regular exercise is one of the best physical stress-reduction techniques, that it relaxes tense muscles, helps you to sleep, improves blood flow to the brain and releases chemicals called endorphins in to your blood stream giving you a feeling of happiness. Oh… and my favourite benefit of exercising is the healthy glow it brings out in your complexion. So, if exercise is not a part of your daily life and you suffer from low energy levels, stress, feelings of unhappiness or an inability to fall asleep, how about incorporating 30 – 45 minutes of exercise in to your daily life throughout the month of November and take notice of the change in your overall sense of well-being.

With the change of season and warm summer approaching there’s no better time to get up a little earlier and get active. The most important thing to do is to choose an exercise routine that suits YOU. Exercise should be fun. It is difficult to maintain an exercise routine that you do not enjoy. Whether it be walking, yoga, pilates, tennis, swimming, rockclimbing, surfing, horse riding or a workout at the gym it needs to be something that YOU enjoy doing.

If exercise is already a part of your daily life, how about mixing up your routine and trying something new. My lifestyle has changed significantly in the past 12 months whereby I am spending more time in hotel rooms or the coutryside, so I have had to reassess my total exercise routine … I use to go to the Zen Ki Yoga studio a couple times a week in Sydney to do a class with Janie Larmour and the other mornings running on the beach and swimming in the surf. But there’s not much soft sand or surf where I seem to find myself these days, so I now do Janie’s Zen Ki Yoga via her DVDs that I can take anywhere, mixed with strength training and dance sessions via Tracey Anderson DVDs and whoa …. does my body feel great by working different muscle groups. How about using November as the month to challenge yourself to a different style of exercise.
