Ideas to Brighten up the Day During Winter

Whilst I love embracing all four seasons with the romantic notion of what each three months represent, hibernating throughout winter is not the best idea for promoting a sense of health, happiness and wellbeing, unless you’re a bear.

Although snuggling up under the doona, sipping warm cocoa and spending lazy days on the couch with a good book all sound enticing, please remember to keep your scales balanced by getting out and about in the world to experience life, maintain your exercise routine and nurture your self and loved ones.

One way to keep it interesting and to add another dimension to your life is to integrate your actions with Jonathon Fisher’s Wake Up Sydney concept of Kindness Cards that read:

“Do something kind and leave this card behind to keep the ripple going”

What a wonderful way to brighten up someone’s day over these dreary wintery days.

The concept behind the Kindness Cards is to perform an anonymous act of kindness and to leave the card behind with the recipient which is indeed a lovely way to help ignite a more kind, conscious and sustainable world. However, it needn’t stop there. How about extending the notion and perform acts of kindness to your loved ones too.

If you’re looking for some inspiration, see if any of these spark your interest: give your partner/friend/sibling/parent a relaxing gift, such as a massage or pop around to their house with a box of herbal tea and healthy treat for a chat; offer to cook dinner one evening; go for a walk together in the park; take their dog for a walk; or some other action that you will enjoy doing.

Please also remember to give yourself a kind gift each day too. A 5 minute self-massage; a walk in the park; a meditation session; a swim in the ocean; reading a chapter of your book; dancing in your living room; or singing along to your favorite music. It could be anything, as long as it is something that truly nurtures YOU.
