What if you spent the month of April making a conscious effort to think about how you can reduce your footprint on the planet? One area I have become particularly conscious of lately is to reduce my waste, and to think twice before making any purchase. Food shopping in particular.
I used to get so excited by all the fresh fruit and vegetables at my local health food store and would fill up the shopping trolley with way more perishables than I could consume. I had all good intentions of making a variety of salads and soups throughout the week, but the reality is that one big pot of soup lasts the entire week for me. Quite simply, my eyes are much bigger than my tummy. It always disappoints me when salad leaves and herbs wilt; celery and carrots soften and berries shrivel. So I made the decision to end my wasteful days and consciously think about the week ahead before embarking on my weekly grocery shop. The result … no more spoiled perishables and a much more environmentally friendly me.
We live in a world of disposable excess. Sad but true. Have you ever looked at how much trash you throw out each week?
It’s my belief that environmental responsibility starts with each and every one of us. If we all made the conscious effort to reduce our own personal waste imagine what impact that would have on the larger scale. This is the very reason that Be Genki products are packaged in the sizes that they are available in – just the right amount for you to use before the product loses its potency once opened.
How many of your beauty and personal care products have been sitting in the bathroom cupboards for 12+ months? Do you think that they might be not so fresh and potent? Maybe it might be a better idea to think before you choose the “super-sized” version of your beauty favourites and become the more environmentally friendly you that the planet needs you to be.
