I don’t know about you, but as the seasons change and my body adjusts to the cooler days and nights I battle to keep my skin from looking like it belongs to a reptile. In particular, my hands and nails that are constantly exposed to the elements – cooler temperatures, wind and air-conditioned offices. So, to help me on my quest for beautifully soft looking hands, I make sure that I keep a Be Genki Serenity Hand Cream close-by at all times.
Every afternoon, when I finish up working for the day, I “wash the day off me” with a quick shower and then massage a little Serenity Hand Cream on to my cuticles and hands. The cream contains shea butter, cocoa butter, mango butter, jojoba oil, rosehip oil, Vitamin B5 and vitamin E which all help to soften, smooth and nourish the skin; whilst the essential oil blend of neroli, rose otto, rosewood, palmarosa and bergamot, help to bring about a sense of calm, especially when I’ve had a stressful day.
Another ritual I make a habit of doing in the cooler months is to increase my intake of silica. Silica plays a key role in the formation of connective tissue, the production of collagen and elastin in the skin, the maintenance of healthy blood vessels, the metabolism of calcium and bone mineralisation in the body. Strong, healthy connective tissue is necessary for smooth and flexible skin, strong hair and nails. So, to help you achieve healthier, stronger skin and to improve the condition of hair and nails, silica is wonderfully beneficial, and I certainly notice the difference after increasing my silica intake.
Silica is found in high fibre foods (it is part of plant fibre), especially pectin (citrus fruits and apples), unprocessed rice, alfalfa tea, kelp, cucumber, garlic, onions, lettuce, avocado and strawberries. As well as increasing my consumption of those foods, I do like to give an extra boost of silica to my diet by adding 10mL of colloidal silica gel to my morning smoothie. You can find good quality colloidal silica gel in your local Wholefoods or health food store.
Those two rituals really do make a difference to the health of my hands and nails, and after a few weeks of doing this each day I am amazed at the improvement.
