The old “Spring Clean” has taken on an entirely different meaning for me this year… I’m about to start commuting between the United States and Australia, so a few weeks ago I thought “what a great opportunity to simplify and de-clutter my life”.
I have gone through EVERYTHING … kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, home-office, living room, the works!!! … and oh what a liberating mission it has been. I did the Ebay thing and sold clothes, shoes and jewelry that had never seen the light of day, and I did the gifting thing and gave away once-loved treasures to friends and family. The insane thing is that I have been carting around boxes and boxes of possessions that I don’t use anymore … and here’s one to laugh about … I had countless sets of liquor glasses for shots, champagne, wine, brandy, sherry and whatever else, and I drink a glass of wine once every few months, if that. Go figure?! Hmmm…. maybe it would have been a better idea to give away those glasses a while back when I stopped drinking, as opposed to taking them with me each time I moved to a new house.
Which poses a very relevant question: when was the last time you went through your cupboards?
It’s my point-of-view that when you live a cluttered life there is little space for new possibilities. With a house that is cluttered and untidy how can the mind be at ease? With an uneasy mind how can you become clear of all that you truly would like to invite in to your life?
So… would you like to join me this month with a spring clean of your own?
When it comes to the bathroom, take a good look at the expiry dates of all your lotions and potions. Chances are there’s a few that would be better suited in the trash. Most cosmetics, once opened, have a shelf life of 3 – 6 months (natural and organic brands especially). And the ones that last longer, you might want to take a look at the ingredients list and see what it is that you’re really lathering on to your skin.
If you’re looking for a fab bath oil alternative that contains no nasties, try the Be Genki Serenity Bath and Shower Oil. The base ingredient is Sweet Almond Oil, and it’s scented with 100% pure essential oils of Neroli, Rose Otto, Rosewood, Palmarosa and Bergamot, renowned for their calming properties. What better way to reward yourself after a spring clean session, than by slipping in to a heavenly scented bath to help wash your worries away. It certainly was one little ritual that helped me get through the task at hand.
