What I Learnt about Back Pain

BackI recently hurt my back. Really badly. Well, technically it wasn’t just my back. It was also a muscle in my groin that went “pop” whilst stretching a little too much at the gym. Which then led to a whole fiasco with the psoas muscle and sciatica which resulted in spasms not only down my leg, but also up my back which placed pressure on my diaphragm which resulted in breathing not as optimally as I would like whenever I was sitting down. Not much fun, hey.

Question Everything

“Everybody realises the issues. Nobody actually acts. There is no time to be silent. There is no time to excuse. The time is now. Let’s start. The future is in our hands. And to make it better we must first change ourselves. Shed all the hatred, all the envy, all of the sadness. Be kind. Smile. and forgive. Continue reading

Top-to-Toe winter home-spa sessions

face-mask

Sitting here on my balcony, soaking up the sunshine I’m feeling a wee bit nervous about jumping on a plane for Australia tomorrow. Just kidding. I’m literally jumping out of my skin at the excitement of heading back home to our little slice of paradise where the countryside meets the sea.

What I am not so keen about, however, is the freakish chill factor that I hear everyone talking about.

I have had thoughts of battening down the hatches to hibernate indoors with a stack of DVDs and warm blanket for the month of August. Continue reading

Integrate Something New in to Your Daily Life to Help Bring About a More Naturally Beautiful You

benaturallyou2 Whether you’re
new to receiving
Be Genki rituals, or have been reading and following them for years I’d love to express my deepest gratitude for your support and for simply taking a moment in time to stop whatever it is that you’re doing to read the latest post.

After a lovely holiday over the Christmas break, I’ve decided to hang up my Be Genki blog boots for 12 months to focus on Be Naturallyou – my latest project and that which is particularly close to my heart. Terribly sorry if you’ve grown to love the Be Genki blog but there’s only so much a girl can do / fit in to one day; and I am sure that you will love Be Naturallyou. Continue reading

December Ritual: Create a Space of Relaxation, Serenity and Love this December, by Making it a Priority to be Kind and Thoughtful to Your Self

womanbeachWhilst the holiday season is something that most of us look forward to, jumping with joy, it can also become a little stressful, frustrating and exhausting.

With the risk of sounding a little like the Scroodge, please be sensible. It’s not called the silly season for no reason. Partying, drinking, indulging, overeating and running around like a headless chicken from event-to-event and shop-to-shop, trying to please everyone but yourself, it’s no wonder many of us feel tired, rundown, overweight and stressed as the new year rolls around. September Ritual: Begin Each Morning with Dry Skin Brushing and Full Body Moisturising to Promote Beautiful Smooth Skin and Awakening for the Body and Mind

One of the first things I do every morning is dry skin brushing. It’s a wonderful body treatment for exfoliating and promoting beautiful soft skin, and is really worth the extra couple of minutes it takes each morning. If you don’t already practice this daily ritual, give it a go for the next 30 days and judge for yourself just how much softer your skin feels. Continue reading

Practice Meditation for a Healthy Mind and Spirit

If there’s one little ritual to implement in you your daily practice I encourage it to be meditation. To just sit and ‘be’. A simple act that is not-so-simple at the very same time.

The act is simple. Sit still, focus on your breathing and continue to do so for about an hour. Having the mental discipline to go beyond the reflexive, “thinking” mind and into a deep state of relaxation, however, is a challenge to say the least. Continue reading

The Importance of Balance

Sometimes when we get dis-ease in the body, it has nothing to do with “catching a virus” or “catching a bug” or pulling a muscle, but more so to do with some other underlying emotional issue or unresolved issue from the past; and sometimes we create the dis-ease, pain or discomfort ourselves on the subconscious level, and other times something different altogether, beyond our rational thinking mind. Be Genki Loves Treehenge

One of the initiatives that I love to do with Be Genki is to support environmental sustainability campaigns that work towards a better, brighter and cleaner future for the world we live in. So, we make a promise to donate 5% of profits each year to ensure that every Be Genki purchase also gives back to the planet.

Recently I came across a FABULOUS initiative that caught my attention and that we will be donating to from 2012 onwards, called … [ drum roll ] … Treehenge.

Meet My New Friend

So it seems I have a new friend. Not sure what he’s called yet (I’m open to any suggestions) … but nevertheless he’s been adding a little extra happiness to my days.

It all started about a month or two ago on Shire Farm – the Aura-Soma biodynamic farm – in Lincolnshire, when little lambs were popping out left, right and centre. It was so so cute to see tens of little ones jumping about the place. But one of them I took a particular love for … as he had one extra long “white sock” on his back leg. Continue reading

Love to All the Mums

With Mother’s Day approaching what better time to reflect back on our mum’s and to send a little extra love and gratitude for all that they be.

When was the last time you gave your mum a big hug? a bunch of flowers? an afternoon together to talk and talk and talk until she’s talked out? a holiday for just the two of you?

A few weeks ago my mum and I went on a trip together. Just the two of us; and as I was booking everything it dawned on me that this was the first time that we had travelled together – just the two of us. Continue reading

is it a time for cracking the shell for new beginnings?
